2012: The Maya calendar explains Ice Age fashion

Among the Ice Age people in the Regional Underworld [...], which was activated about one hundred thousand years ago, we know from archaeology that change was very slow, and there is no reason to believe that they were aware of any evolution of their lifestyle. Because of the slow rate of change, you could wear a mammoth fur your whole life without this going out of fashion. (Calleman 2009:57)

Nice to see the Maya calendar being used to study Ice Age fashion… In any case, I am reading Calleman’s latest ¬†book from time to time and I will write comments on it now and then in the months to come. The book is so full of mistakes and stereotypes like the ones in the quote so it will easy keep me busy.¬†Just a declaration. My comments will for sure be biased. Calleman’s model of the evolution of the universe is based on platonic essences. It is transcendent and arborescent (tree-like). Hence, it is illustrative that at the core of his thesis is The Tree of Life. The reason why my comments will be biased is because that I reject essences. I focus on the immanent and rhizomatic.
