2012: How to spot a prophet’s Maya hoax – numerology and gematria

Most prophets of nonsense have settled for the December 21, 2012 as their “end date” of the Long Count cycle. This is often connected with the fact that this date is also when the winter solstice occurs. A solstice is the instant moment when the Sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer’s hemisphere. In other words, the winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year north of the equator.The exact time for the solstice is 11:11  GMT.

However, there is no evidence that suggests that the cycle was believed to end on 13.0.0.0.0. (13 Baktun). In the Temple of the Inscriptions at Palenque we have a date in the next Piktun, in AD 4772. Another problem is that there are, in fact, other correlations between the Julian/Gregorian calendars and the Calendar round and Long Count calendars, that sets the 13 Baktun date on December 23, 2012. Others, like Aldana, claim that the correlation issue is far from resolved.

Such issues are, however, of no problem for the prophets with a taste for numerology and gematria. Gematria is a Hebrew way of assigning numerical values to a word or phrase. Words and phrases that share similar numerical values have a relation with each other or may relate to the number itself (such as a calendar date, a person’s age, etc). Numerology is a belief in a mystical relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things. Each number is given a meaning. People usually use numbers from 0 to 10.

Of course, gematria and numerology are attached to the “end date”. What did you expect? On the 2012 Forum, binskiboys wrote that December 21 2012 equals 11 because (1+2)+(2+1)+(2+0+1+2) = 11. So, obviously number 11 is important. As mentioned, the winter solstice occurs at11:11. Binskiboys links to a webpage by Uri Geller himself, the fork bender. Here we learn that if we multiply 1111 by itself we will get 1234321, which forms a pyramid! This of course means that number 11 is a sacred number of the pyramid since the Khufu pyramid in Egypt has the base:height ratio 7:11 (Seven Eleven, is not that a relation to the shop around my corner as well?). Never mind that this ratio base/height does not relate to many Mesoamerican “pyramids”, the Khufu pyramid will always be the raw model. 11 is also harmonious with pi and hence crucial for our understanding of the universe. Geller says that 11:11 is a crack between two worlds (the world of crack pots maybe?). The 9/11 attack is also related to 11 since 9+1+1 is 11. Geller lists several famous people and events related to number 11. You could probably find plenty of people and events associated with other numbers as well.

Number 11 is not an important number in the Maya area, but that is not the issue either since 11 refers to the Creator as another one of the Forum 2012 people claims. David Jay Jordan, a hardcore creationist, says “the not so bright Mayans, who are no more did not create the speeds and conjunctions of the heavenly bodies. Their evil forces in their blood thrisdty religion might have easily taped into the heavenly knowledge from their vantage points in the heavenlies, but even these evil forces have no power in creation and DESIGN. So the pattern has to be heavenly and by DESIGN of the Creator. To understand this, we have to understand the importance of eleven or 11, as it is a multiplier number, and is a starting point of expansion”. He goes on and says that “the Number 11 is the unseen number that co-relates others invisibly from the center. It is the NUMBER of JESUS in Gematria, because He is the invisable Force behind all of Creation. It can be seen in the graphics of the Hebrew Kabullah, as the invisible center of the Tree of Life, called Daarth [Vader???].. And it is for this reason that the dark side conspiracy groups like to use the Number 11 for a date when their nefarious deeds are done, such as 9/11. They wanting to tell their members that they in their invisability to the majority are controlling the masses and forwarding their goal of world domination. And yet it is the LORD, who is controlling them, as their numeric value is ZERO”.

This is of course complete nonsense from beginning to end. If we ignore Jordan’s ethnocentric (I could use a far stronger word here but choose not to do so) ideas and his complete lack of knowledge about anything related to the Maya area, there are a couple of basic misconceptions here concerning 11:11, December 21, 2012. As for the correlation problem, if you use the December 23, 2012 date you end up with number 13 and there is no winter solstice whatsoever. But that is not the major issue. This is the fact that these number fanatics focus on the Gregorian calendar, a decimal numbering system and GMT.

The Maya used a vigesimal system based on number 20. It means that each date should have a numerical value, not just 0-10. Further, the Maya only used 3 symbols to record their numbers: a shell for zero, a dot for 1-4 and a bar for 5. The number hoaxers do not even try to convert the Hebrew system to the Maya system because their almighty Lord has already decided the order of the universe. Further, the “end” date also has a Calendar round date: 4 Ajaw 3 K’ank’in and this is never included in the number prophets predictions. The Tzolk’in date has no actual beginning but Ajaw has been given the 0 position in Long Count inscriptions. K’ank’in is “month” number 14. This gives us the number: 4+0+3+(1+4)=12. Not associated with 11.

Further, the lowest temporal unit in the Maya calendars is the day. How could they have come up with such an exact date as 11:11? If they had the technology to measure smaller units than a day, they would probably have divided the day into 20 hours as well. The day would probably begin in the morning, not at midnight. Further, they would of course use local time and that time would differ depending on the longitude. There would not be a unified clock in the Maya area as has been the case in many parts of the world. They would for sure not use a modern global reference point for measuring time. GMT was invented in 1884 as the result of Britain’s mariners’ need to keep their chronometers on GMT, to be able to calculate their longitude from the Greenwich meridian (zero degrees).

Apparently, the people who created the Long Count calendar in the first centuries BC correlated their “end” date with British sailor’s chronometers that emerged more than 2000 years later! Ancient wisdom…? No, contemporary nonsense created by ethnocentric creationists and pseudoscientists. Btw, I post this at 11:11 am Central European time. Coincidence?
