Apocalypto meets Titanic – Gibson and DiCaprio shoot vikings

This is apparantly not the most recent news but I found it out today. Mel Gibson will direct a movie about vikings attacking a monastery. Leonardo DiCaprio is supposed to be the main character (I do not know if he is supposed to be a viking or a monk). In a way this is the logical sequel of both Apoalypto and Titanic (perhaps even more violence than in Apocalypto but probably slightly smaller boats than in Titanic). How long will it take for a viking specialist to debunk and point out obvious flaws (it did not take long for Mayanists to do the same with Apocalypto)… Will we see horns on the helmets?

  1. FINALLY a Viking movie by Mel Gibson! Now my life is complete.

  2. So is mine. I guess the thread from The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto to “Beserk” (or whatever the movie will be called) is made up by Catholics/Christians. Undoubtedly the Vikings will be the bad guys attacking the true faith (in Gibson’s view).

If he make the movie like the two earlier ones they should be speaking some Scandinavian language. I hope they do not make the usual mistake of having a Scandinavian person speaking with a German accent a la Schwarzenegger. Do I sound like him?

  3. Well, think it should be “monk” and “berserk” anyway.

If this is sold as a “romantic comedy” actual historical details äre not maybe so important? And if Lindisfarne is involved, we may point out that this is the bad behaviour of Danish and Norwegian raiders, not of good Swedish traders!

  4. Pardon my Swenglish. Yes, we Swedes have always been more creative than those destructive Danes and Norwegians.

  5. Johan,

I know you will be disappointed to hear this, but you do not sound like Arnold. Maybe if you keep practicing and watching the Terminator, you can get there someday.

  6. My acting skills are at the same level as his. I just need some workout first, but I am too old for that anyway.

  7. I will look forward to seeing mel gibson again. i hope he’s in his movie.. I often watch his reruns of lethal weapon 🙂

  8. I do not mind Gibson in the movie. I have less problem with Apocalypto than most of my fellow Mayanists (see the tag on Apocalypto).
