The Mexican archaeologist Enrique Nalda Hernandez has died of cancer at the age of 73. His main focus for the past two decades was southern Quintana Roo. In 1987 he began to excavate at Dzibanché and later at Kinichná which was part of the same widely distributed settlement. In 2009 he began the work of the vast site of Ichkabal. Nalda has contributed enormously to the understanding of the Kan kingdom.
