Unknown ruler discovered at Toniná

Yesterday INAH reported on the epigraphic discovery of the name of a hitherto unknown king of Toniná. Fourteen rulers are now known from this site covering the time period AD 501-909. The name is incomplete but it includes K’awiil (a deity associated with royal bloodlines and lightning) and perhaps Yopaat (another deity). Both names are fairly common royal names. No dates have so far been found associated with the new king but he may have ruled sometime around AD 739-762.
