Abbreviations in Maya writing

There are few Mayanist blogs, especially those that present original research (there are a couple of blogs in English and Spanish that mainly report on others’ research). One of those few blogs that do present research done by the bloggers themselves (excluding myself) is Maya Decipherment. It is managed by David Stuart. On occasion Stephen Houston also makes a contribution. In the latest blog post Houston has co-authored a post with Simon Martin. In this article they discuss a particular underspelling that occurred during a brief period (AD 769-799). These are restricted to the displays of relations to captives. I hope we will see more frequent posts on this blog in the future (rather than one every second month).
