R.I.P. Merle Greene Robertson

Already in 2011 three highly influential researchers of the ancient past have passed away. First the archaeologist/Mayanist Bruce Dahlin left us  in February. Less than two weeks ago the archaeologist/theorist Lewis Binford passed away. Yesterday the arthistorian/Mayanist Merle Greene Robertson left us. She  is “widely known for her extensive contributions to the investigation and preservation of the art, iconography, and writing of Maya civilization” (Zender & Skidmore 2011).

  1. Sad for all of us. She was a marvelous woman who lived a long and wonderful life. Those of us who remember the Palenque Roundtables know she started something very special.

  2. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to see or hear her in person.
