In the past few days I have been debating the mega-drought hypothesis for the Maya (and Angkor’s) collapse at From the Stormy Sky. Stan is in favor of the hypothesis, with some minor modifications from Gill’s account. I am sceptical to the way Gill (and palaeoclimatologists) have created their correlations between drought and societal collapse. I agree with Stan that droughts had serious impact on society but we differ in the opinion about what lessons we can learn from a society’s response(s) to dramatic climate changes.
