Sammy, the turtle

Sammy

One of my son’s favourite movies is Sammy’s Adventures: The Secret Passage. In this animated movie we can follow the life of a sea turtle from hatching to mature age. On our vacation we ended up on the black sand beach of Pemuteran in the northeast part of Bali. A few hundred meters from the hotel where we stayed is a turtle hatching and release program (Proyek Penyu) at Reefseen Aquatics. One morning (before 10 AM in order not to get caught in the fishermen’s nets) my son had the opportunity to release one turtle which he called Sammy. At the time of release Sammy was 3 months old. If he or she still is around eating sea grass he or she is 4,5 months old by now. Give him or her eight months more and he or she will survive the most critical phase in his/her life. We hope the best.
